ABOUT MY WORK
I had studied a variety of muscle and joint release techniques (including trigger point therapy, deep tissue, active release techniques, positional release and more), before I found Neurokinetic Therapy (NKT) and Proprioceptive-Deep Tendon Reflex (P-DTR). These techniques aim to address a wide variety of physiological compensations that can interfere with healing and recovery. While my work these days is predominantly massage, it is massage that is informed by these principles. Studying these techniques has made my work more powerful, and it has given me tools to make your treatment completely tailored to your needs.
What these techniques teach us---or what the human body has been teaching us all along---is that very similar looking symptoms can have very different causes. For instance, if you take three people who have all been diagnosed with plantar fasciitis, whose symptoms and scans look essentially identical, and who follow the exact same protocol to get better, one may heal very quickly, one may take longer, and another may not get better with that protocol. It's easy to assume we're doing something wrong in these instances, but in fact it may just be that our symptoms only tell part of the story. The whole story is more complex, and every person's story is different. This is also why someone can have great discomfort or weakness even though their MRI shows nothing, while another person can have an MRI revealing arthritis, degenerative disc disease, bulging discs and more and have no symptoms at all.
After helping with things as diverse as chronic night-time coughing, mysterious chest numbness, weird gum pain, nighttime leg cramps and more, I no longer think of symptoms as strange. They are just different ways our bodies communicate information, and so often feeling better is just a matter of finding the right key.
